In the shadows, we have asked 100s of leaders this question: what’s hard for you? When we get really clear about what’s hard, it’s a lot easier to find solutions. 

Today, I’m going to share with you 4 leadership solutions for mid-sized teams. If you have a tiny team or a large team, stick around because I’m sure it’s going to help you open your mind and think of things that are more specific to your team size.

First, I want to describe the difference between being “stuck” and being “burnt out.” I saw this on a Mel Robbins post and thought it was SO helpful!

“Feeling stuck” comes from losing a connection with yourself because you are so bogged down with your day-to-day life. You’re busy getting things done and you’re no longer learning anything new. That monotony makes you feel tired, complacent, and stuck.

Being burnt out comes from chronic stress that hasn’t been managed correctly. You feel physically, cognitively, and emotionally exhausted, making it difficult to feel good about yourself or your job. 

Instead of feeling invested, you feel detached with leads to losing your connection to yourself and the pride you used to have in your work.

Today, we are going to talk about what keeps leaders stuck, and some solutions to these problems. 

By the way, Mel’s solution to being stuck is to get intentional about growing as a person- pursue something NEW that interests you, spend time on the things that matter to you. 

The same old way of doing things isn’t going to get you where you want to go. I do think that being stuck can also lead to burnout, where your nervous system gets out of whack and we get exhausted. 

So…here are the problems I’m noticing:

1. Their time and focus are scattered like a game of whack a mole

2. They are getting bogged down with 1-on-1 activities and need to move to communication that can impact more people at once

3. They are leading by emotion and charisma and need to move to leadership systems and strategies that are more efficient

4. They just flat out need more builders coming in at all the levels of their team and they are the only one ever recruiting

The solutions though… are what I would call “stage specific.”

When we work with people, we split them up into grow, expand, and multiply. Tiny team, medium team, large team (and beyond). 

For the purposes of this training, I’m going to focus on a few solutions for people with mid-sized teams, like 6-15 active team members. I’m sure that something in here will be helpful for you. 

1. Time and focus- start to capture systems. This is something like recording your events and keeping them as a learning tool for team members. 

2. Bogged down with communication- establish FB communities, email, and text communication. This keeps everyone in the loop!

3. Leading my emotion and charisma- get clear on criteria for mentoring, and focus on having each person you mentor commit to 3 actions to take each time you meet with them. A system for mentoring will take a lot of stress off your plate and make you feel like a good leader.

4. Need more builders- work with your team members to invite people to recruiting conversations that you do together with their people. This is traditionally called a 3-way call. Or you can work with them to share a short video, or invite their customers to a “how to earn money or free product” event.
