Recently, I’ve been coaching a lot of people on social media, recruiting, etc. And everything is so serious! And some people are struggling to get momentum because they are forgetting why network marketing works.
I want to take a few minutes today to ground you in the network marketing model, and the most important thing to remember.
There are so many people out there who are frustrated or who are naysayers because “this doesn’t work.”
Network marketing works because it is based on word-of-mouth.
People have problems. Companies design the best product possible to create results people will talk about. You talk to them about a solution. They buy and share the good news with people they care about.
Yes, it’s about sales and enrollment, that’s how everyone gets paid. But ultimately, this is a word-of-mouth game.
This is awesome because it’s a true win-win-win for everyone involved. I know a lot of people who listen to this podcast are very, “just tell me what to do and I’ll do it.” So here is what to do:
- Be nice to your potential customer
- Create and execute a sales process that is effective, enjoyable, and easy
- Highlight how easy the sales process is and ask your customer for connections with people who would benefit from having a conversation like the one they just had with you. When someone has a great word of mouth influence, it’s not because customers are recommending the product. It’s not that they are recommending the actual person either. What they are ACTUALLY recommending is the sales process.
I used to think that the most important thing in scheduling appointments, events, and asking for referrals were the words that we say. I’ve come to the conclusion that while the words are important, the MOST important thing is the conviction in the service we provide.
If we LOVE customers, then we can be confident that we are a gift to the community. If we love customers, then we can extend that love to the people they love. Our thought changes to, “asking for hosts or referrals” is a gift, NOT something we are taking from them.
This mindset shift is critical to be successful in network marketing. Even if you are building “online” it’s still about those people that you meet online wanting to share with people they know. This is why it’s so important online to show up as a real human who cares about people. Those positive emotions your presence elicits from your customers (online and offline) create trust and belief in the sales process, opening up opportunities for word-of-mouth.
